"A means for elaborating a given note configuration. There are two basic types of operations: 1) 'rhythmic operations," which shift attack-poits and/or the number of note-attacks in a given context; and 2) 'tonal operations,' which replace notes in a given time-spans with notes of different pitch, in addition to altering rhythmic configurations (Komar, 1971)."
